Maintenance mode for a UDE – Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Unified Development Environment (UDE)

As we transition into the new dispensation, Unified Developer Experience (UDE),  Maintenance mode for Dataverse-backed Finance and Operations environments is no longer available via LCS.

The new approach is called Administration mode, and it can be applied to trial, sandbox, or even production environments.

Let’s proceed to enable Administration mode on our environment.

This is now managed through the Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC).

Go to  Power Platform admin center  aka.ms/ppac

1. In the navigation pane, select Manage.
2. In the Manage pane, select Environments.
3. In the Environments page, select a sandbox, production, or trial (subscription-based) environment.
4. In the Details web part, select Edit.
5. The Edit details pane appears.
6. Turn the Administration mode property to Enabled.
7. Optionally, you can set Background operations.
8. Select Save.

Note: 

The Background operations. disable all asynchronous operations  such as workflows and synchronization with Exchange. Emails aren’t sent and server-side synchronization for appointments, contacts, and tasks are disabled.

Once saved…

The process kickstarts and the Finance and Operations environment becomes inaccessible for about 20 mins.

Once completed you get the info the environment details page. “This environment is currently in administration mode, so only admins can sign in to it. You can turn off administration mode in settings.”
